SanThome Youth

M.G.O.C.S.M. and O.C.Y.M. Chapter of St. Thomas Orthodox Maha Edavaka

Overview :

Mar Gregorios Orthodox Christian Student Movement (M.G.O.C.S.M.) is the oldest Christian Student Movement in India, founded in 1907. It is the student wing of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church founded from an intense yearning and need for spiritual progress along with a livelier sense of the spirit of true Christian Fellowship through Worship, Study and Service. Orthodox Christian Youth Movement (O.C.Y.M.) is the youth wing of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, contributing to the progress of the Church and community. Several activities are conducted at the diocesan and church levels under the guidance of the vicars, to encourage the students to use their talents and skills to help and love one another and glorify God.

The SainThome Youth, as it was originally christened, has been a strong presence in our Parish and the Orthodox Community across both Diocese and Sabha levels, since its inception in 1983-84. From taking up many service activities like running a pharmacy, a lending library, supporting various charitable missions, to feeding the poor, constructing a Library Lounge, and supporting Makkala Mane, the SanThome Youth has evolved over the years into a dependable and responsible pillar of the Parish and a steady contributor to all the activities of the Parish and other sister Spiritual Organizations.

Activities (2024-2025):

The Motto of the Mar Gregorious Orthodox Christian Student Movement and the Orthodox Christian Youth Movements is Study, Worship and Service. Keeping this motto in mind, the SanThome Youth has organised and orchestrated Charity Collection drives for various Charitable Organizations like Daya Bhavan and Makkala Mane.

As part of SanThome Youth’s Community Building and Outreach Programmes conducted so far during 2024-2025, include the Free Saplings distributed to the Sunday School students the St. Thomas Orthodox Maha Edavaka Sunday School, as a celebration of World Environment Day, and the Annual SanThome Youth Potluck which was a celebration of joy with the inmates of Makkala Mane. The SanThome Youth also gifted sealing clips and monogrammed pens to celebrate Mother’s Day and Father’s Day to celebrate the unsung heroes in every family.

Members of the SanThome Youth and SanThome Choir continue to try and participate, improve, and maintain the Parish’s quality of Holy Qurbana service by supporting the Holy Qurbana every Sunday. In addition to this, they’re planning to bring in new talent from the Sunday School Junior Choir.
